AWIE – Asbestos Worker

Objective: EPA certification by passing the course test which will enable a person to apply for a Texas Department of State Health Services Asbestos license.

Course Target:Persons in search of employment as asbestos worker

• Asbestos Repair
• Asbestos Encapsulation
• Asbestos Enclosure
• Asbestos O & M (likely to disturb or be exposed to ACM)

Course Prerequisite:NONE

Course Content:Students will become familiar with current federal, state, and local asbestos regulations.  Hands-on training with the

use of respirators, negative air equipment, glove bag, protective clothing, HEPA filters, and practical do‵s and don‵ts within existing regulations.  Instructor supervised student mockup construction of a regulated and containment area including a decon and negative air machine installation.  Health related problems, medical requirements, and monitoring and AHERA will be included in the course.

Test: At the completion of the course, a 50 question test will be administered.  A minimum score of 70% or higher is required to for the course certification.
